Recently a long-standing client approached SÄKAPHEN to find both a coating and lining solution that provided total protection of all surfaces of a gas / water separator. The client themselves, a leading supplier of customer focused solutions, in line with SÄKAPHEN’s total belief and has acquired an internationally acclaimed reputation for producing high quality, reliable radiators and heat exchangers, a perfect fit for SÄKAPHEN.

The challenge was to find both a product and an application method to protect both internal and external surfaces from corrosive condensate, commonly found in marine and petrochemical environments. Due to the complex design of the separator with restrictive internals and drain holes of less than 3mm diameter, a truly bespoke product was required.

The chosen material was Si 57 EL. SÄKAPHEN Si 57 EL is a high-quality hydrophobic single-component epoxy-phenolic thermosetting heat cured lining specifically formulated for the coating of finned air coolers as used in HVAC and HVAC-R equipment. Si 57 EL is chemically resistant to fumes, mist (also in droplets) of strong alkaline to weak acidic media, salt solutions, greases, oils and gases and all types of cooling water (including brackish, river, sea water and deionized water) and when used in conjunction with a polyurethane topcoat offers UV protection. Si 57 EL is also resistant to temperature fluctuations.

In specifying SÄKAPHEN Si 57 EL, SÄKAPHEN was able to protect against aggressive waters and gases whilst application can be carried out at low viscosities allowing sufficient dry film thickness.
